Fre Photo Magazine! At Least Here In The Us!

Posted this on my Photo thread, but thought others might use this,

Hello to All!,

I may have mentioned this before, but Oh Well!

Rangefinder Magazine is a very good magazine for artists, primarily photographers, but good info for all. Every month, there is a "letter" from the head counsel of ASMP and talks about legal stuff and copyright. It has a bunch of new equipment reviewed and lot's of articles on improving your business. It's slanted mostly towards the portrait and wedding folk, but really good for all. This month is the "Marketing" issue, and the online version is below in PDF form.

And OH!!! Here in the states, it's free! A nice big glassy photo magazine, free!

Here's how you subscribe, either for the paper version or the online version:

Hello Again!

Been awhile, but I've been meaning to keep this up and do short outlines of what's offered and to remind artists, that this is a nice glossy magazine, and free! They provide an actual delivered to your door mag and also the Online version.

Again, it's geared toward the wedding portrait people, but has articles that will benefit all photographers and other artists, did I mention it was FREE!

Just finished the May and June Issues and May has a whopper article, not the Burger King Whopper, a news whopper. If you now own Photoshop Elements 12 or there abouts, there is a new software package, plugin and now, just for PC people, no Mac's, unless you're running a Win 7 emulator, that now makes this $60-$70 software,PSE12, almost like the big version of Photoshop, CS6 or the Cloid version! This plugin costs $49 and keep you from buying the full version or joing the iCloud for $10/month or as I look at it, $120 a year, for like forever!

PSE12 was a very powerful program to start and now with this plugin, adds features that was only on the pricey full version. The software is called "Elements XXL2"

Here's the article from Rangefinder Mag:

http://digitalmag.rangefinderonline.com/rangefinder/may_2014?pg=112&search_term=photoshop%20elements&doc_id=-1&search_term=photoshop%20elements#pg110

I would ask those out there, the Photoshop Guru, guys and gals to read this and then offer their opinions on what this means to the average user, the PSE12 user, that is. I myself, use 20%? maybe of the big Photoshop CS6 and if I was looking to get a new version or invest $120/year, I would jump on this!

" Elements XXL 2 not only adds the Curves adjustment, it also adds Exposure, Vibrance, Color Balance, Channel Mixer, Black & White and Selective Color. With the adjustment layers already in Photoshop Elements, the only adjustment missing is Color Lookup. Those few who have figured out how to use it will need to stick with Photoshop."

So basically, you can add this plugin for $49 and now have ALL you need to prepare your images or, if you don't yet have PSE12, then for around what the yearly subscription costs, you now have all you need!

June Issue is the Marketing Issue and a must read too.

Good Luck and let me know if this is a benefit to most,

Rich

Very cool, thanks, Rich! I already browsed through some of their back issues and found lots of interesting stuff.

I can't find where to subscribe though. When I click on "Rangefinder" (upper left) a page comes up that says "About this publication" but it's blank.

Peggy,

Hope this helps: http://digitalmag.rangefinderonline.com/rangefinder/201209?pg=5&search_term=subscribe&doc_id=-1&search_term=subscribe#pg5

I get mine the old fashion way, by mail!!! I've been getting this for many years and they want to know that you're a real photographer and ask you to describe your business. So for many of us, we are "business people, sole proprietorsa and /or freelancers, If you shoot weddings, even better!

Rich

Ask Pamela!!!

Thanks, Rich and Melissa. I live in Canada so I can't subscribe to the magazine through mail but I still don't see how I can subscribe to the online mag.

Peggy,

Just send them an email and explain that you're "up there" and would like the magazine OR the online subscription and I'm sure you'll get an answer,

Rich

Thanks Rich! I remembered seeing that you had posted this somewhere else...maybe in a group email or something....but I never signed up. This reminder prompted me to get right on it and sign up. Can't wait for my first issue.

Thanks Rich.. I already receive this... I personally do not find it very useful but can see how it can be for the professional wedding and portrait photographers.

But they also have a magazine called AfterCapture that I find much more useful. As the title suggests it is about post processing. The have good articles on using photoshop and other software.

Thanks for the suggestion, Rich...I'll do that for the online subscription. A hard copy subscription costs $20/year for us Canucks.
