I was sent an announcement this morning that JixiPix is offering, for a limited time, FREE SOFTWARE on their PORTRAIT PAINTER program. I have their PREMIUM PACKAGE and use Portrait Painter, often! Here's the link: https://jixipix.com/portrait-painter/details.html
Image of Hunter was done in Portrait Painter!

They're a really good software company, Rose, and their customer service is terrific, should you email them about ANYTHING! Yep, free is always a "good thing."

Thanks CJ!
I'm not too fond of using this "painting effect" alone for manipulating an image but I generally use a combination of software for that anyway. Here's my first attempt using this software in combination with PS-CS6 and some of it's features to tame down the extreme contrast and vibrancy which the JixIPix adjustments have only a minimal affect...
Of course you would have to click the image and use the "green box" to really see the details of manipulation to any degree.

I will definitely download the software and give it a try. I currently use ARKVIS Artwork. I've been very pleased with it, but it was a bit expensive. Thanks for the hot tip CJ!

Great recommendation, CJ I have/use PP. It has many selectable features/effects, from mild to almost grotesque. Everyone should give it a try (careful, don't get carried away).

Thank you for sharing, CJ! I will give it a try.
- Looks very good on your 'Hunter' image!

In the process of trying to reinstall all of my editing software from a hard drive crash. Ugh! Will add this one to my list. Thank you!

Y'all I am not sure the time frame since it's "Free for a limited time." Since the email was sent to me this morning I am sure it's for at least a few weeks. If for some reason you wait longer, you can always contact the good people at JixiPix and I'm sure they would work something out with ya!
Lin, I have their premium package and use it all the time!
Brian, I alternate between JixiPix and PicMonkey for my photographs. I rarely use PP in it's entirety!

I emailed the site's "support" people and asked how long they were offering the free software. As soon as I hear back from them, I'll post it here!
That's super you're going to try out the program, See My Photos!
You, also, Sandi and Catherine!

Hi Y'all! I just received an email reply from Michael at JixiPix and he said "It will be live through Monday. But once you complete the process you can download whenever you need."

You are so welcome, Alana!
Lisa, it's a simple program and not like Adobe at all. You'll have to try and see if it's for you. It may not be...

Anyone know how to stop it from automatically applying a filter to the photo you call up? The "undo" doesn't seem to work with that first one, and thus I would always have to add layer upon layer of effects. Help?

Thank You CJ, for the great news. Love it gone to download to give it a try. Who knows I may like it as much as you do!

Rose, I just sent you an email. I can help you better there. In fact if anyone has any questions, just email me, ok? I use the program a lot!
Lemme know how you like it, RS!

I just downloaded it - Thanks so much for letting us know, CJ!! Looks like a great tool to add to my processing. Will try it out tomorrow.

CJ - I use Photoshop and some of it's features along with other software like FotoSketcher which I believe is free to use. Even IrfanView has an option for a painting effect, but it seems none are that great by themselves that I've tried. For that reason, I'm always open to other "free" software for creating or combining effects.

Congratulations, CJ, you officially have the first thread, that has not been met with some kind of opposition! < wink wink >
How refreshing!!

Well, Marlene, ya just never know who may come and ruin it with something! Let's hope that it remains as it was intended...to give members the info and the choice to use the free program or not!

Rose posted a problem she was experiencing and I emailed the staff at JixiPix. This is what Michael wrote:
"Our workflow is a little different. There is never a reason to get back to the original photo. Everytime you change effects or make an adjustment we automatically apply an effect for you. The power to this is you can just go through our effects and presets by clicking on them one by one. All previous adjustments are removed and the new look is applied. They do not compound on top of each other but instead replace any previous adjustments. We call this "Click and Get". Whatever you click on will remove all previous adjustments and update to match any new settings or preset you have chosen.
For our Pro apps with layers this work flow is a little different. In this case you add a layer to add more and more changes. Each layer adds another unique set of changes on top of what was previously rendered in the layer below it. You control all adjustments and additions."

Thank you, CJ! I downloaded it and will have fun exploring it. I rarely work with photos in my artwork, but it may be interesting to see what it would do with my freehand digital paintings.

Downloaded and tried, Works well, tried on a few people images in my people collection. Easy to use, a few nice presets. Same things can be accomplished with other software, but this is more of a one button then adjust with sliders. Only draw back, for me, doesn't work directly as a plugin for LR or PS, but it's free. I found a work around, so..will use need its effects. gives an interesting effect to landscapes and other things too. It's fun little package.
Thanks for the share and link, appreciated, CJ

You are so welcome, Bill, and regardless of whether it's the best editing program out there (and we all have out faves) it was free to play with!
