Hot Day, Need A Nap?

It has been so hot over 100 degrees since the Father's Day weekend in our location. Each afternoon I want to finish the paintings I have been working on, but I feel so sleepy, really need a nap... Do you feel the same during a hot day?

Too hot to paint. Couldn't paint all day. Had to drink a lot of water.

Xueling over 100 is HOT! I don't blame you one bit for opting to nap, crank up the a/c and pour a real cold drink to help. :-)

It's 115.5 right now in Tucson... just woke up from a nap!

Mario, I don't have a/c at my studio. I am trying to loose some weight, but all I want to eat is ice cream now...

Just hearing your post, makes me want to take a nap!!! I hate the hot sun beating down on me... nap time, for sure!

Marlene Burns

This is just a little hotter than usual for this time of year. June is our hottest month. Phoenix has cancelled flights. Planes can't take off in high teen range

It depends on where you are… it’s a nice dry heat here; I took the dog for a walk this afternoon when it was 95 :-) No naps for me! They make me groggy.

Emmanuel, Haha, you're right! My favorite ice cream is ThreeTwins' organic bittersweet chocolate ice cream, can buy it at the Wholefood in our location. I love it so much, I may have to get it later...;).
What is your favorite ice cream?

Today has been our hottest day of the year here, right around 100* I think, hotter than normal for this time of year. I'll be taking my afternoon nap shortly.

Becky, That's true. There are a lot of families on vacations now. Hope they all have experienced nice weathers wherever they have been.

Marlene, Haha, I love it too, I can't wait to have some ice cream.

Another my favorite way to eat vanilla ice cream is adding a little bit limoncello liqueur, :D :D... Has anyone tried it yet?

During the summer, I make a point of beginning my workday at 3 a.m. -- that way, I don't feel guilty about goofing off during the heat of the day.
A/C, ice water, and Korean TV shows or NetFlix. That's how I deal with our many 100 degree days here in South Texas.

Ice cream sounds good, but I can't be trusted with it in the house, so rarely have it around. My favorite: a local brand called Creamy Creations (made by H-E-B Grocery Company).
The ONLY flavor on my 'Favorite Flavor' list? Intense Chocolate, of course!

Keep cool, all!

David, Did you really take a late nap? I wonder why the heat makes people sleepy?

David Bridburg

Xueling,

No I do not nap. The heat today was a balmy 75 or so with a cool breeze. Wonderful day. I am looking forward to another 8 degrees and hitting the beach in July Aug.

Setting aside making art, I have a lot more time on my hands. Telling my mentor today, "I am a man of leisure, just going out to sell my art". He said I know. I have small routines online every day. Then I have the last of the set up online of my Political Scrog collection.

I am very comfortable and relaxed these days. The way life should be.

Was in DC today, there and Baltimore were about 90, but with low humidity. It was a nice break from recent days where humidity has hovered in the 90's and a lukewarm glass of water got dewy. I don't know why anybody would sleep on days like that. Just either do something indoors with the AC or adjust to the wet heat and do something outside and be sweaty. I opted for the latter.

I'm staying in the Sacramento Valley this week with a BF who's on a gig. It's frickin' MISERABLE here! Hot at home too but I live at a higher elevation so nowhere near as brutal as this hell hole. The hotel has a nice pool but no dogs allowed inside the pool area and I can't leave Edsel alone in the room. Same with restaurants. Restaurants with patio areas allow dogs but who wants to try to eat outside when it's 107? Lunched yesterday afternoon in old Folsom with a friend. Food was great, local beer was divine, but we broiled in the patio area even in the shade. Had to carry Edsel all the way back to the car (and he weighs a ton!) because the pavement would have scorched the pads right off of his poor feet. Why do people choose to live in places like this? I'm a native coastal girl and so yearn to be back home cloaked in fog with a chilly onshore breeze whipping over the beach!

As far as getting any photography done on this trip, I left all my gear at home for the first time ever. I'm masochistic to a point but this is ridiculous. Not about to lug around heavy equipment and try to find inspiration in the blast of a blowtorch. We're heading up to Nevada City tomorrow for some R&R and it'll be a few degrees cooler. Meantime, Edsel and I are going to hole up in the room with a good book or two, and hopefully a good nap.

Stay safe people and HYDRATE!

Just in the upper 80's here today - but very muggy - and I'm going to take my nap.

It's been years and years since we owned any pets - we travel way too much and there are too many places that we like that don't accept pets, dogs or cats, and traveling - they are too much trouble anyway. We don't own any birds or goldfish either. No pets at all. I could never afford their vet bill any way.

In the 50's today here. If you can sleep in the heat, become crepuscular. That is what the wildlife does. We have been having a cool, wet spring and the up-welling is back on track for now. A respite from global warming, at least locally.

60s here on the coast, but still like an afternoon nap :)

I would never drag a healthy dog around on this kind of trip but Edsel needs his blood glucose monitored daily, prescription food on schedule, prescriptions pills on schedule, and insulin shots twice daily, so it just wasn't feasible to leave him home with his dad, with all the other animals and plants there that need attention. I couldn't enjoy myself away if I was worried about whether Edsel was getting proper care at home. At least he's being a good little trooper and not adding to the stress by acting out. This evening he'll have a lovely backyard and air-conditioned home to roam while we two-leggeds kick back with drinks and dinner. Way more relaxing for all concerned.

Coolest day in weeks. Rained hard for half a minute, now everything smells so good! No close lightning so far. Very grateful.

Yes, we had a couple of cooler days. But it is 96 degrees again. Just not feeling to go out anywhere, or to any event, and not taking a nap neither. What's the temperature at your location?

Joy McKenzie

Me too, Xueling...gorgeous, glorious few days in the high 60s and low 70s...and then today feels like I just opened the oven door and stuck my head in! Amazing how one can feel normal, and feel like doing things...I even got some cleaning done in the past few days. Now I'm sitting here like a lump, barely breathing! lol It's about 83 outside...80 inside. Too hot for me.

David King

Looks like we are finally heading solidly into autumn temperatures. Today is low 80's just a couple days after a week of mid 90's and the forecast has us into the mid 70's by the end of the week, looks like a steady downward trend on temps, however I'm sure we'll have a bump back up into the mid or high 80's for a week or two at some point.

Joy McKenzie

Well that sounds pleasant, David! I know we still have to get through all of Sept. and Oct before I trust that the heat is gone for the year.

Xueling Zou

Joy, Wow, I've missed a nice day @SF, 80's seem a perfect temperature for me :D! We have to turn the AC on....

David King

"Sept. and Oct before I trust that the heat is gone for the year."

But for us the end of October marks the beginning of months of misery...unless you are a skier I suppose. We have long, hot summers, (usually) and long, cold ugly, miserable winters with a month or two of pleasant in between. I don't love the hot but I can deal with it, the cold and ice and snow however make me hate life. The one redeeming thing about winter though use to be that the cold and snow give us beautiful mountain forests...those forests are still there but now they are so packed with cars and hikers I can't stand being up in the mountains hardly any more than being in the valley.

Joy McKenzie

No, Xueling, 80s are still gross for me, spoiled baby that I am! lol It would be different with ac, but I don't have it.

Oh dear David...I wish the winters weren't so bad for you. If it's any consolation, we can get weeks of rain at a time starting in Nov. Cold and windy rain. It's not pleasant at all.

David King

"If it's any consolation, we can get weeks of rain at a time starting in Nov. Cold and windy rain. It's not pleasant at all."

It's not any consolation, just makes me feel bad for you too. Even if I was offered a good job with a considerably higher salary in the Northeast I'd decline it. I don't mind rain occasionally, but for days or weeks on end it's as bad as our winter if not worse. I had a coworker that was from Seattle, he was a scout leader and they'd camp in the rain, he said if they didn't do things in the rain they wouldn't be able to do anything. We had a spring one year where it seemed to rain non-stop from March until the end of June, it was cold too, usually in the 50's, it was one bizarre spring and it depressed me really bad! We basically had one month of summer that year, only July was hot, we went back into a cool down by mid August, just a bizarre year, I hope we never repeat it.

Strange, we had thunder storm yesterday. I don't think that it rained in September since I had moved to here. Still hot and humid, 96 degrees.

Quite cool here today, I think 64 was our high, summer is definitely over, but I'm sure we'll have some days of 80's maybe even 90's before the temps dive for good.

Xueling, today was a freaken hot day in Florida, I can't believe it's almost October and still no break in the 90+ degrees and that's in the shade.

Today I over heated working outside in full sun at a customers house, I was building a 10Ft. x 10Ft ramp to an elevated deck that's for a vehicle. I started at 10:00am and at 12:30pm, I had to get in my truck and crank up the a/c, soon as I started to cool off I started to feel the effects of heat exhaustion.

I'm all to familiar with the effects of the sun and heat and I take as much precaution as possible but it sneaks up on you, your body acclimates to the heat as your are working and the effects are felt when you stop working and try and cool off.

It's a terrible feeling, feels like your going to die, waterever that feels like. I took 2 bottles of water and 1 gatoraide and I drank it all and ate a banana. I had to stop for the day and call it quits. Tomorrow I am faced with the same heat situation. I'm taking 2 large bottles of poweraide which has electrolites and 2 bananas. I will take more frequent breaks than today, I don't want a repeat of today.

It only takes like 15 minutes to dehydrate when doing physical labor in the full sun. It can be deadly.

I felt the effects most of the day and had to take multipile showers to get some relief. I'm just now feeling like I have recooperated. The only good thing about today is that I'm more than 1/2 finished with the ramp, hopefully tomorrow I'll have it completed.

I can't wait for fall or winter to get here. Sure feels like the climate is changing and getting hotter and staying hotter outside here in Florida.
