I am being followed by people I do not know.
I do not follow any of them back.
The people I follow do not follow me back.
I think it is better this way. But I am sleepless because I had some caffeine yesterday. That is how I got to this epiphany. The hard way.

Not sure if there is some confusion. I do not know English. LOL
I ordered the decaf in dunkin donuts yesterday and got caffeine. My wheels have not stopped spinning yet. The shop made an honest mistake.
Dave....exhausted......

Not drinking caffeine is NEVER the answer. Shame on both of you poor deluded souls.

Whats a 'dunkin doughnut' and you said.... ordered the decaf in dunkin donuts yesterday and got caffeine
You get coffee in doughnuts?
Oh, I see how I wrote it.
Dunkin Donuts sucks.
It is a doughnut and coffee shop. I had a croissant. That was good.
The shop is a very large chain of stores. "America Runs on Dunkin Donuts". Watered down coffee.
Dave

Dunkin Doughnuts is the brand of coffee shops. "America runs on Dunkin" is their slogan. They are experimenting with dropping the "doughnuts" part.
It's good old regular coffee priced reasonably instead of the overpriced espresso based drinks at Starbucks.
Ed,
For much of central CT, the donuts are made in a factory and shipped at 4 am to the stores.
Dave
wooowwww...Starbucks is cheaper. I have a gold card. I get free refills on the basic drinks. The expresso to a regular coffee at DD is an apples to oranges comparison. DD also has the high priced drinks and theirs are all sugar.

I don't eat the doughnuts. Orignally there claim to fame was a doughnut with an little handle bit so you could hold on to it as you dunked it in your coffee. Then they invented Munchkins which were doughnut holes.
They used to advertise an guy who had to get up in the middle of the night "Time to make the doughnuts" to make the stuff but it turned off future franchise buyers.
I do a bagel or a sandwich once in a while. I skip the huge calorie gimmicky drinks also.

"up to 52 varieties fresh day and night" --- they've slimmed down the product offerings and expanded beverages. Most have about 12 varieties these days.
Like any good business, they figure out what their core product offerings should be and phase out the rest.
Anyone seen "The Founder" about McDs and Ray Kroc? Same deal - success came when they got down to the core products and did them right.
Ed,
That was a very long time ago.
In the Hartford area, I knew a family that owned 13 DD stores. In those days the donuts were some of the best. Made in each store.
Now they are stale as they come off the truck. They are smaller. Cheaper etc.

Back then their competition was supermarkets adding bakeries and taking away business from local donut shops. Now they have to compete with the likes of Starbucks and McCafe at McDonalds as well as gas stations.
Suddenly the marketing strategy had to change from offering variety to offering convenience and speed rather than "fresh".
Just shows you never know where your competition will come from next.

My younger brother worked in the IT department at DD headquarters a while back. It was all about data mining. Where to put a store, how to get product to the store just in time, inventory control, quick turnover etc.
The "Bess Eaton" shops of yore, didn't innovate or evolve and are now in the scrap heap of retailers who didn't change with the times.

Dorothy,
Dunking a donut was a gimmick after WW II. Almost no one ever does it any more. The donut for dunking was a plain old fashioned. As Ed said they cut it with a tab or handle to hold when you dunked it. Many donut stores do not even sell that donut any longer.

Abbie,
Careful...LOL....you need to stay neutral. Half of the Americans will show up here swearing by DD and cursing SB, Starbucks. Visa versa as well.
BTW SB does not cheapen things. Their egg sandwiches use free range eggs....etc....but much of it is high in calories. And at SB the prices can get quite steep.
The gold card gives me a free item valued at about $6 for every $62.50 I spend. I can plug in at SB and surf the internet. I guess I could at DD, but SB has better tables and chairs.

I know as I get older, I am beginning to have a different position in life. I do not want to be seen as cantankerous. The instinct is to be. But it has its own problems.
I also would not like to mope all the way through these threads. The flip side of this.

I love my Mr. Coffee Latte maker. It warms and whips up the milk while the espresso grind coffee drips in. Makes two cups. Which is good because after one you are full. We go through a lot of milk in a week because of this machine.
You can sip a nice foamy latte while scanning Facebook.

Edward was that a combo class, the 4th and 5th grade group? In any case I eat doughnuts once a year up at a place called Apple Hill. Drink coffee every day but think I'm reaching the age where I don't get jittery, the coffee just makes me function sort of like a human.

I can't live without my Cuban coffee, before Cuban coffee I drank American coffee but once I tried the Cuban stuff in Miami that's all she wrote. I used to drink 8 or 10 demitas per day. Now I'm down to 2 demitas sometimes 3. I had to go through withdrawls which mainly are severe headaches. I did this when I quit smoking about 7 years ago.
My wife Alina is Cuban and she makes the best, she beats the sugar with the first drippings that come out of the stove top expresso coffee pot, the sugar turns to a caramelized paste consitency and then when mixed with the remaining brew it floats to the top as a sugary froth,so darn good! It does not make me hyper at all, I can drink it late at night and go right to sleep.
Ah, but you can make coffee, cappuccino or espresso with a Saeco, using grind or beans (which are then ground to your personal preference of grind), with or without steamed and frothed milk. You load the sucker up with water and beans once a week (or two) and for the rest of the week you just push a button. The top even warms your mugs. If you are as blind and nonfunctional when you wake up as I so am, just pushing a button for coffee isn't a luxury, it's a necessity.
One simply cannot start their day without the Elixir of Life. So it is written.

Ugh, feel for you, David. Having had my share of insomnia and enough trouble sleeping as it is, I'm paranoid about ordering decaf and receiving caffeinated late at night.
Dora, interesting coffee has that effect on you—tea still has a significant amount of caffeine, and because you drink lots of it your caffeine intake could still match a coffee drinker's. So maybe it's something else in the coffee that causes the symptoms.

Dora,
RE:.... "Because I would love to drink coffee, I love the smell, and I love to see people having their ritual to drink that little thing with that little spoon, adding sugar, mixing it in those tiny cups. "
Just because of that, to me, coffee calms me......
Everything seems to be "All Right", when I sit down for that morning coffee.
To the point that I become comfortably drowsy.
So, if I have something very important to do early in the morning, I hold off having MY coffee, while I'm still relatively alert.
Could all this be, because I HAVE to be Different??........And a bit obstinate ?

Do you have Tassimo there?
Abbie,
You just want someone to ask.....so....what is Tassimo?
Joseph,
Locally at the Bucks, I am known as Decaf Dave. I have drilled the entire staff on this.
The caffeine problem two days ago was on a beach run to Madison CT.

New Zealand had the best coffee I ever tasted. I drank it all day... Well really, they are called flat whites and such. Dont' ask for a coffee, they seem to get angry with that verbiage. Plain coffee to them is like drinking a 4 letter word starting with sh.
Joseph, I dont know, but I dont drink only black tea, I drink white, green, and roiboos too. From black I drink Earl Gray, is my favourite, but every day I drink different, so not only strong black. Still Black tea doesn't have any effect like coffee makes me, only that I shouldn't drink black tea before sleeping. But coffee is just not for me...
Roger you see that is why I am a bit jealous of coffee drinkers. A love to see that morning magic, they drink the stuff, and feel like the world suddenly became whole :D The day officially started for them.
Of course I could have same ritual with tea, but for me is so normal now, and I drink tea from morning till evening I make them in big pot like a litre or something, I drink hot and cold, I dont mind, because I dont like plain water I need to drink something. But this way tea lost the magic.
My husband just bought me a beautiful book about tea from the second hand market, with full or rituals, and all I should know about it, probably soon I will create my own thing with the tea
(I tried with decaf, but for me seems like shitting :D )

Ronald - I have 12 kids from 4th grade to 7th in my three hour summer camp. It is nuts. If I look away for a moment one of the kids will have taken something apart or pulled out some wire or knocked over something or throwing something. The girls are always a pleasure, wish I had more of them in my classes.

I am not keen but do like the Latte Machiatto (Caramel)

You're welcome, Abbie... caffeine via just about any variety of Tassimo, for me. The Lattes are really good, for sure.

Roger, coffee makes me sleepy too. It's not that you're different. There are many who like you and me should not drink coffee. It's relaxing and provides the best dreaming experience ever.

Ha, "Decaf Dave", that's great. I'm a bit like you, if it's that time of day I'll order decaf and confirm that it actually IS decaf with the person who made it when I pick it up.
Conversely, at all other times I want it fully leaded (so to speak). The idea of "the world suddenly becoming whole" upon drinking the morning coffee resonates with me, Dora. :)
Kevin: yes sir, NZ has a serious coffee culture. Australia, too. You're never far from a high-quality brew. At least in the big centers—I've had some pretty bad coffee in small towns, but these days even that's rare.

I brew my own.
There is no way to justify leaving the house to go buy a cup of coffee when I want it first thing in the morning. If you buy your own coffee and make it at home, even the most expensive cup is under 25 cents. I don't need to contribute to a coffee shop's retail business expenses. AND I can drink in my Jammie's, no make up or bra!

I Portugal everybody drinks coffee at least five per day, except me...
The only business which is a guaranteed success here is open a Coffee place with little sweet bakery products. You cannot fail with that, even if in 10 meter, there is another one already exist.
Where I live, almost every shop close after summer till spring, except the Coffees, they are always full
Now if I ask for tea, they look at me strange, they dont have even decent tea cups sometimes. If I ask lemon with it , worse

Dora,
I am in SB having a decaf blend. They put in a sugary binder and blend it up. It is very frothy. I am on my second as it is free.
