Autumn Equinox

Winter is coming
The autumn equinox, otherwise know as the first day of fall, arrives on Friday, Sept. 22 in the Earth's northern hemisphere. The transition marks the time when the sun will be shining directly on the Earth's equator, bringing equal amounts of daylight and darkness.

I know that on the calendar the equinoxes and the solstices mark the begininng of the seasons, but to me the are actually the mid point of the seasons.

I consider today the Autumn Equinox to be the midway point of fall.

No matter how you look at it, winter is indeed coming.

The mountain is covered with snow! Unusually early.

We're heading up for a picnic today to celebrate the equinox and recent happy events. For the first time in months, we'll need to swap out shorts, tank tops and sandals for thermals, down vests and boots. It was 110 here only a couple weeks ago! The other good news - snow from the mountain will recharge the creeks so there'll be enough water flowing to keep my plants happy until winter.

I remember on this day , my beloved father Joseph's birthday. He always asked me what I'd like on his birthday......such a dear soul, so funny. rip.

Viva, my dad was born on the summer solstice and he was the best man I've ever known. You and I were truly blessed.

Yes, yes, Kathleen............ohhh, I do become overcome when Autumn gently reminds of me all that went before, and all that is yet ahead.........
.We are blessed, yes.

Who would I be,
If it weren't for he.

We have had strange weather all summer, not really too hot, very rarely had to turn on the AC, and just a few weeks ago it was so cold you wanted to turn on the heat and the leaves on the trees were starting to turn color - we had a vacation week up northern Ontario in Aug and had to bring extra jackets etc cause it was cold and at night it dropped to 4 degrees

But this week it is so hot we have the AC on and this weekend the humidex will hit 39 degrees

It may be fall but not for the temperature as yet and I do love the fall season, the colors are magical here in Ontario
