Using Treasures You Find For Photographs

Aloha Fine Art Artists,
I was wondering if anyone out there likes to find treasures at antique shops, flea markets or anywhere to use for photographs. I will often find myself doing this as I walk thru a antique store looking for something to photograph and use as a prop. The photograph I posted I used a civil war token and nature when I went on a hike. I would love to hear from you my fellow artists.

Sincerely,
Michael

Great treasure/photo, Michael.

This silver charm was a 'find' just in time for Valentines Day, and was fun to design the photo . I was inspired.

Michael,

I live in a seacoast town and enjoy beachcombing at low tide. I return home with pieces of sea glass.

I originally kept the pieces on display in bottles, jars and on plates. Then I decided to make calendars with a sea glass theme. Selling calendars is seasonal, but I’ve done well with sales when I sell in bulk. The photographs make lovely cards and prints too.

Trashed glass that is beautified by the salt, sand, water and weather, they become rounded and crystallized into gems.

Here’s my sea glass gallery here.

I used to do it all the time when I was really active at Instagram... you can still see all of the weird stuff I took photos of and posted there if you visit and scroll through my thousands of posts.

Fair warning my page goes all the way back to 2012 so that is a lot of scrolling! lol

That's my plan for the next year or so. Buy small, interesting antique and vintage items, use them in photographs and resell them on ebay and hopefully make a little profit on the sale, or at least break even.

BTW, what does the Freemason token have to do with the Civil War?

David,
I like to do the same in resale some items when I can. The token has a cool civil war slogan about traitors on the back of it. I have been fascinated with civil war and Freemason collectibles for some time.

I do it ALL THE TIME. I spend hours going through antique stores looking for things that can make me money shooting. My wife is actually ready to leave before I am more times than not.

90% of my purchases are profitable within six months of purchase.
