Looking For Tiffen Dfx 4 Software

If you have this software and can share it with me please reach out to me in a PM.

I have a license code for this version but I do not have a copy of the software to reinstall it, when I thought I burned it onto a CD it turns out that it never actually burned onto the disc.

I looked on the web and could not find a download anywhere. Tiffen stopped providing this software online in 2017 and DFT is no help. They want me to buy their software as an upgrade which is the same as DFX, but I can't at this time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you..

If you purchased the software did you contact them to see if they would provide a download link? I know it's not supported any longer but maybe you might get lucky? Then again, maybe not. After a really quick look, the only place I see it is on warez sites and we don't do warez.

Lots of versions on usenet, but like warez, try at your own risk

Thanks for your responses.

There is no link or downloadable file available thru Tiffen any longer. I don't even see the sites you two are even talking about when I do a search. Maybe because I am in the USA, but I don't know.

I do have version 2 on disc but it is not compatible with Win 10, so it is useless. If no one here has v4, guess I will need to move on from it. Just hoping to extend my time using this software because I like using it.

Have an iDevice? They do make an app version. It's good.

Angie, you can get a programme somewhere..... Or on 10 itself, I cannot remember, whereby it will allow you to run previous versions of Windows so older programs work.

I'm in bed right now on a tablet so cannot help more right now

Is this not the same company? I don't know since I don't use the software but I would guess this is what Don meant - it was literally the first result when I searched for "Tiffen DFX 4"

https://tiffen.com/dfx-products/

You would probably need to send a message and explain your problem assuming they are the people who you got the software from. There's a "contact us" at the bottom of the page.

Mark,

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. I had posted the same link but deleted it because the download buttons are deactivated. Maybe she contacted them and they told her downloads are not available. I don't know.

It looks like Tiffen may not be of any help at all. Not only are they not supporting the software any longer, the Dfx support link is returning a 404 as is the DFT upgrade page. Support by Tiffen ended in 2017. The only link that works on that page at all is the logo link at the bottom of the page to the DFT website.

That page states:

"To Our Loyal Customers,

After a decade long collaborative effort with Digital Film Tools (DFT), The Tiffen Company will no longer be selling or supporting the Dfx creative digital effects software and PhotoFX iOS software. DFT, the replacement product for Dfx, is available through Digital Film Tools. Tiffen will continue its software support for 90 days before DFT takes on all software support."

https://tiffen.com/software/software-update/

If you still have your receipt you could try to contact DFT.

Then again, it might just be a longshot and a waste of time.

DFT Support FAQ says...

"Do I qualify for an upgrage to DFT?
Composite Suite Pro, Tiffen(R) Dfx, and zMatte are no longer sold or developed. However, existing customers of these products qualify for a reduced price upgrade to DFT v1. DFT v1 (Digital Film Tools) is a new combined plug-in set and is the highly anti..."

Thanks folks! Yes Don I did everything you suggested some time ago and the only thing DFT offered me was the upgrade for a set price/upgrade price of their so called new version of the same software. I was kinda mad at the fact that I had only bought the v4 upgrade barely a year before they ended all support and I didn't want to buy the software again under a different name. I even used DFTs trial version the end of last year and it works the same. The only difference between them is there is no longer any filters with names we know Tiffen for in the software, so some of the warming and softening filters are gone. But everything else is the same.

I could buy the DFT software and it would suit my needs fine, but 1. it's the principal of the matter of paying twice for the same shit. and 2. I can't swing the purchase now anyway.

Had Tiffen left access to existing customers to the software, I wouldn't be having any issues. I think it was a pretty low blow to allow purchases of the software and then swipe its existence from the web in less than a year later. IMO not good business practices, regardless of their desire not to further develop the software with their trademark on it, and DFT is no better for not honoring previous purchases and forcing my hand to buy it again.

This is not the first time I have addressed getting a copy of this software. I have made several attempts since it has gone under to recover a copy and just haven't had any luck. I haven't found anything that I like that does the same things. I also will use any photo editing softwares for a really long time, because I like working with it and because of that time spent it allows me to move through them easily, where learning a new one, just takes me a long time to learn to get around it.

I do not own any apple devices Susan.

I tried installing DFX v2 in Win10 before I bought v4 and it wasn't compatible. Even Tiffen told me that and why I bought v4. It will install but it doesn't recognize it, because nothing happens when I try to open it. The OS of my PC is not the old DOS system we used with older versions of Windows. Win10 runs/operates completely different and there have been a lot of issue with old softwares not being able to operate correctly because manufacturers of those softwares wouldn't offer fixes. At least that is my understanding of this OS.

Abbie, to add of what I just mentioned about compatibility with Win 10 OS, it is Win Vista and older that you can run Windows in a compatibility mode, but I haven't had a good experience yet, trying to do this with Win 10.

Angie, I hear you. Been there, done that with other software and software companies.

I still have an old Windows 7 machine beside my Windows 10 rig with probably close to a hundred pieces of software I can't run on Windows 10 for various reasons. I dread using it because it's an old i3 machine stuffed to the gills and the boot and shutdown times are at world record long lengths. I do have the machine connected to both of my monitors so I just switch inputs when I want to use it.

If you have tried compatibility mode then I think your only other option is to download another emulator and try that if you think it's worth it. With your old rig not being DOS-based, you may be stuck. I know they have Linux emulators and other stuff available, but I have never personally tried them if that's what you were on.

That said, best of luck to you!

I noticed the buttons did nothing but hoped maybe contacting them would work. Personally, I would avoid giving my money to a company that wouldn't so much as provide a simple download for the version a customer has purchased in the past. That's rough!

Maybe you'll luck up and find someone else who still has the installation software. Good luck!

Tiffen was the distributor for the software under their brand name. The distribution deal is no more and the company that created the software is now selling it directly.

Tiffen is a good company.

I have been using their filters since the days I first started photography. They are one of the biggest and have been around 75 years.

I am guessing Dfx may have actually been developed in partnership with or developed by someone at DFT.

It looks like they ended that licensing partnership or whatever agreement they had for whatever reason. They did post a notice on their site prior to discontinuing support.

DFT has been around for a while but I don't have any experience with them. I've seen other companies do the same - as in not providing further download links a year or more after they have ended a product.

Obviously, they want folks to buy into the new version of the product branded by them, and they don't want to spend time and money supporting something sold by someone else that was discontinued by them a while ago.

Edit: I see David posted while I was writing this.

LOL

You guys certainly figured things out pretty dam quickly considering it was only because of my interest to retain a copy of the dfx software, that sparked your interest to investigate. Nice to have a great group of folks that are so willing to help and even learn about something in a way to finding a resolution. Thank you all for that and for each of you taking the time to chime into this thread!! It is one of the reasons I decided to ask here, because there has always been such a wonderfully supported group of talented artists here, since the day I have joined FAA, Always helpful, and always supportive!!

Tiffen is a company I have known about almost my entire life!! I know their reputation has always been one well earned in the industry and I don't hold Tiffen solely responsible for their handling of the DFX software disconnect. In fact, I believe DFT is the company that dropped the ball not being willing to work with me, when I reached out to them. Not to get into the details, but the response was not only disappointing, it was inconsiderate of an existing paying customer that has been using DFX software since it first came out. Which is certainly DFTs software. I will not give them any of my money. More and more filter softwares are popping up because of their popularity, I am sure I will find one when I am ready to buy again, and even have one possibility already!

Thanks folks!
