Do You Prefer Loose?

Do you prefer to paint loose or not?

Why?

To include everyone, what do you prefer on your walls?

Do you love tight? And why?

In my opinion neither is better, but what is your opinion? There is no wrong or right answer. We all know that art is in the eye of the beholder!!

I prefer loose, or at least impressionistic. A pure photo would have to very special for me to hang it on my wall even though I do have quite a few photos in my portfolio more often than not I prefer to heavily modify them. I'll admit I didn't start out this way. When I started out I preferred realism, as time goes on I've become more and more abstract.

I now work "Loose" not because its my preference, its because I have no choice.

Its not only my work, everything these days is "Loose", except around my belt line.

There was a time, when everything was "Tight"

I have both on my walls - ME - I prefer 'tight' and realistic for most things. Generally - even my digital abstracts are pretty tight. : https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/1-roy-erickson.html

Me too, Roger. I haven't seen a single improvement in my style since I started painting and most of those artists that have inspired me were loose painters as well...not that I want that on my walls!

I like very large black and white photos on my wall, but I change them out quite often.

I started out painting expressionistically, very loose but over the years have tightened up a great deal.

Lisa, I actually got to see a bunch of his paintings up close and personal in a gallery in Park City a couple years ago. They are fun paintings to look at.

Loose and rustic, it hides so much! Lol!

Well I loved the video and his words! The next time I make a hot mess of my work and decide to destroy it at a point of frustration, I will not forget to do exactly what I just saw. My shapes will probably be wine glasses or fish. So funny.

Hmmm, Mario...it hides? Very interesting. What does it hide?

I feel more naked by not tightening up my work...which is a little shy of why I paint. I paint mostly to stop myself from over consuming and spending endless hours in front of the boobtube snuggling my husby or cats. I'm super lazy by nature, and I have to combat it somehow.

When I paint, I prefer to have a blend of tight and loose in the same painting. But "tight" does not necessarily mean "realistic" as sometimes the tighter I get the more abstract I am. It is usually the looser paintings that are the more realistic...but strict realism is not my thing anymore, as all of my art is abstracted. I used to strive for exact realism but got bored with the whole idea of depicting a reality just like it appears. But painting a tight abstraction can be tedious and boring as well...thus I prefer the blend of the two.

My walls are just a jumble of my own completed artwork, works in progress and blank canvases...with no regard for proper hanging or placement, hanging merely on drywall screws screwed into the walls.

My walls are the same, Bruce...lol
