Anyone Using "press Releases"?

Is it useful and to whom?

I spent the past 10 minutes searching for this feature to see what you were referring to and didn't even know it existed, so I am either REALLY dumb/blind or it's not very intuitive to find.

But I would imagine if it was that hard to find for me, there probably aren't many buyers in there

Just my two cents :)

I think it shows up only on Pixels, although I am not quite sure about it also. I 've just found this link:

https://pixels.com/pressreleasedirectory.html

Maybe there is something that we 're missing which only buyers can see. But it could also be some kind of a "forgotten function" that still exists for those who use it, but in reality, it is of no practical usefulness.

But it makes me wonder.

It does show up on FAA too, it's under "Community" and "Member" news. That link is the same as what's on FAA.

Thumbed through a few days and came across an ad for underwear so people do go in there, but not sure how relevant it really is.

I tried posting a blog once as well and got 6 views

Quite right, Chance! You are great!

And in front of my eyes! So it is there where all the press releases appear! ;) Oh, is it my question a little fool right now? I feel it is! :D :D

But should I upload press releases for past events? Would that make any sense? Or it would seem a bit stupid?

And are there people who are really watching the press releases? I don't know...

Well it took me 10 minutes to find it so I am not THAT great. Haha.

I couldn't figure out how you actually post to it.

I don't think it matters if you write about things that happened in the past or the future if it has unique news value. I probably wouldn't write about anything beyond a few months ago.

I doubt there are many buyers there, probably even less than the number of buyers who read discussions (we are always told there aren't many buyers in the forums), but it wouldn't be a waste of time to give it a go and see if you have any traction with it if you put together a quick press release..

There is a "Press" tab on your main page of your portfolio. I have done a few to basically use a different way to attract folks here. On an event I shared several years ago, I sent it to some local media and a few put it on their website. A local paper mentioned a new book that I had photographs in based of the local railroad.

I used to work in the media, so relevant press releases are important. Don't send them to media just to announce a new image. Those I share only to social media. But if they are relevant enough, send them to relevant media. You never know when it might hit the right eyes in a news room. Say you are going to display your art at a local arts and crafts fair. They may be planning to do a story on the fair and want to talk to a local artis instead of the organizer. Now they have your contact information. Most if not all media web sites have an e-mail address to submit story ideas.

Make sure the press release is professional. It does not have to look like a New York agency put it together. But it should be in the format they are used to. Here's an example --

"I couldn't figure out how you actually post to it."

The tab on your landing page. Click it and at the top of the page is a Create New Release" tab

Wise words!

Maybe press releases could also be used as a personal archive of our achievements outside the community of FAA. But as you say for recent events.

I will just post only one press release for a past event to see how it looks like in the Member news area. ;)

Go to your profile page and hit the press button.

These can be just for FFAA use.

A real press release should go to the right editor at targeted media and be followed up with a phone call to the editor.

I have done a few with scant results. (Thanks for reminding me. I deleted some on FAA that were past their prime!)

Joseph and Barbie, out of curiosity, I went to try that and there is no button anywhere to actually create a press release.

It just says "You have not created any press releases." I can't find an option to create one. Wonder if you have to have a special permission?

The button to create a press release should be at the top of the page, these are your releases, so there won’t be one there until you make one, it should be under member features

After you make one you’re fine, remember to share it on social media or e-mail. No one is going to find it otherwise

You are right Joseph, it is at the very top of the page, above my profile info. On mobile I had to scroll all the way up to see it..

I don't think I've done anything press worthy lately but I'll keep this in mind for the future. Thanks for your help!
