Your Favorite Moon Image

Figured it might be fun to start an image thread about the moon. I've photographed the moon so many times but I still get excited whenever I see a full moon rising. This image is one of my favs and it was photographed in Everglades National Park. I had borrowed a friends 800mm lens which unfortunately I had to give back (don't think I didn't put up a fight). I actually love it when people accuse me of photoshopping this one...means I did my job lol. Looking forward to seeing all of your moon art!

I just finished this piece. This piece started out as an abstract. I wanted to convey the beauty of a full moon and how it brings forth the magic of the night, along with its spirituality and mystery.

Since switching to a digital format the moon has become one of my favorite subjects. Someone once asked me why I stick a moon on "everything" - Well I don't stick them on everything but I do have a lot of them.

This is Moonlit Conversation a fun piece I did around Halloween.

Great idea for a thread. I've got several moon images ... but this is my favorite. Creating it was the first time I went fully into "the zone" with art (I'd been there many times with creative writing). It was quite an experience ... this sounds a bit woo-woo doesn't it? Anyway ... the hours flew by. When I stepped back into this world, I had a very hungry family on my hands. Ahhh ... reality.

I've only got one moon image in my portfolio here at FAA, so I guess by default this is my favorite. Hahaha!

This is a composite, I took to photos and blended them in photoshop. One photo focused on the moon and the other with the evergreen branches in focus. I felt the image looked better with everything in focus, even though the tree was more of a silhouette.

Full Moon On The Bay by Kathy K. McClellan

The full moon in this photograph occurred in March of 2005. All of the piers, houses and trees that are in this picture were destroyed five months later on August 29, 2005 by Hurricane Katrina. The trees and man made objects may not exist anymore but the moon still rises and sets and it still reflects in The Bay of Saint Louis in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi. Nature is alive and well and we continue to enjoy as much of it as possible.

Only having a 300 zoom, I really can't get that close but I did enjoy seeing the moon next to this old streetlamp outside of historic Greenfield Village in Dearborn Michigan when we were leaving the village to go back to the car.

I captured a landscape at the Outer Banks of North Carolina and used it as the base of a sci-fi world, adding a glowing moon, stars, comet, and set it outside an open window. I then added green curtains, a textured wall and subtle vignette with a touch of mist outside. The mind has access to a new worlds. It can be surreal and lonely or full of opportunity and fantasy. We'll start with an "OPEN" window and see where it leads us.

Sitting on the empty chair lift and looking up at a full moon was a unique experience to have. This view used to be practically in my backyard as I lived in Mammoth Lakes, within walking distance of the old slow double chair #15 of the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. It has since been replaced with a high-speed quad, and six-seater lifts, traveling at around 1000 feet per minute. Everyone seems to be in a hurry nowadays but that's another story.

I captured the tree at Fort Smallwood Park in Pasadena, Maryland. From the angle of capture I noticed how the only two limbs seemed to be stretched out and reaching toward the sky. During processing, I added a moon just above the limbs as if it was falling into the stretched out branches. Then I added the text, "If You Should Ever Fall... I'll Be There To Catch You!". This sentiment expresses the symbolism of love. I also did a version without the text.

I captured a pine tree at John Downs Memorial Park in Pasadena, Maryland. I stitched two captures together for a slightly wider image. The Downs Park overlook deck was partially in the image which I digitally removed. I also added an oversized moon and a soaring eagle silhouette for a more picturesque, romantic and artistic composition.
