The coastline of the Snaefellsnes peninsula in western Iceland is dominated by lava streams of nearby Snaefallsjoekull volcano. This volcano is famous since Jules Verne's novel Journey to the Center of the Earth from 1864, where it is the entrance to the subterranean journey.

"San Antonio Riverwalk - Colorful Umbrella Dining" by Patti Deters. A row of outdoor dining seating with colorful umbrellas lines the 15-mile urban waterway in San Antonio, Texas. Known as The River Walk, or Paseo del Rio, it is the largest urban ecosystem in the United States. You can find it below street level and, walking or boating, it is a serene and pleasant experience when touring the town while offering charming cafes and shops along the way. If you like this artistic photograph, please see (travel, scenic, more) at patti-deters.pixels.com.

The beautiful Samoyed dog is best known for its endearing smiles ... as well as their fluffy coat and playful nature. Always ready for an adventure, the Samoyed makes a wonderful family pet when treated with love and respect. Here, the sweet-natured beauty stands half in the brilliant sunlight and half in soft shadow, the expectant gleam in her eyes and perked ears foretelling all kinds of fun are just about to happen!! Get ready!!!

Grandmothers Doilies by Kathy K. McClellan

Grandmother's Doilies by Kathy K. McClellan is a photograph taken for Day One of the Three Day Anything Goes Challenge.

These doilies were handmade by someone's grandmother. They were crocheted, which is a needle working artistic craft.

Doilies are created with openwork designs, allowing the background to show through. They have been used for binding flowers, head coverings, china and metal tray protectors, food service presentation, furniture protectors and ornamental decor.

The use of a doily will dictate what material is used (fabric, thread or paper) and how it was made. Antimacassars were most likely not handmade and were used to protect the back of stuffed furniture from Macassar, an oily hair grooming aid used in the 1800s. Later, they were used to keep the arms of stuffed furniture clean and were sold as chair sets.

Chair Sets were promoted to help you keep your furniture clean as well as suggesting that your home would be welcoming and would encourage your guests to linger. On a practical note the furniture doilies were often used to hide worn or torn chair arms.

In Victorian times flower arrangements were either wrapped in a doily or placed through a hole in the center of the doily.

Doilies are used in food presentation on or under trays, plates and vases. Their placement can be dictated by etiquette.

Some people think of old, dark, musty houses when they see doilies. But there are others that are overcome with nostalgia. They can smell that roast beef that Grandma made every Sunday. They feel the love and warmth of their family when gazing at old doilies.

Grandmother's Doilies. A trip down memory lane.

Not one to pass up on a great shooting opportunity, I headed up to the Walkway Over The Hudson's sponsored fireworks display in the Poughkeepsie/Highland area.

I've captured this display in years past from the walkway itself, but this time, I wanted to feature the magnificent Mid-Hudson Bridge as the fireworks went off behind the west tower of the span.

This is the fifth image of this series, and the only one that incorporates the CVS Railroad tracks as foreground material.

Although not the most spectacular sky, it was none of the less a quite striking mixture of pastel colors of melon, peach and plum. It offered a wonderful counterpoint to the Hudson Highlands and the Parrot Cannon that sits at the Cold Spring, NY waterfront.

A few of us headed down to Brooklyn to shoot sunset shots, and what we thought was going to be the third night of the 9/11 Light Memorial. Unfortunately, we were misinformed and did not have the opportunity to document it.

Prior to what we thought was going to be the lighting of the memorial lights, I/we were able to capture a beautiful New York City September sunset.

A few of us headed down to Brooklyn to shoot sunset shots, and what we thought was going to be the third night of the 9/11 Light Memorial. Unfortunately, we were misinformed and did not have the opportunity to document it.

As we headed back our car, we had to pass through the Dumbo neighborhood in Brooklyn, and as this was my first opportunity to shoot the iconic Brooklyn Bridge with the Freedom Tower towering over it at night, there was no way I was going pass that up!

Since there were no memorial light, and nothing spectacular happening in the sky, I pondered what can I bring to the table to make my capture stand out?

Oh yea, I put on my Six-Star Filter to get this special effect, and viola, an abstract image that I am proud of!

To the Struggle Against World Terrorism (also known as the Tear of Grief and the Tear Drop Memorial) is a 10–story sculpture by Zurab Tsereteli that was given to the United States as an official gift from the Russian government as a memorial to the victims of the September 11 attacks in 2001, and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
It stands at the end of the former Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey. Ceremonial groundbreaking occurred on September 16, 2005, in a ceremony attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The monument was dedicated on September 11, 2006, in a ceremony attended by former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

An annual pilgrimage for many photographers in and around New York City, the 9/11 light memorial took on even more meaning (if possible) as New Yorkers, and people from around the world mourn the lives lost that day twenty years ago, as well as remembering the people they left behind...

This image was captured from the shoreline of Bayonne, New Jersey.

This was one of the first photos I captured during the blue hour. The three sunflowers were reading to greet the rising sun behind me, and seemed to be dancing in anticipation!

Before packing up for the evening, I decided to wait out the rise of the Gibbous Moon. As it rose over the ridge line, the sky turned into a soft and beautiful purple and blue, and the warm summer breeze gently moved the grasses in the foreground.

I couldn't have asked for a better finale to a wonderful session of photography!

I drove by this location a few weeks back, but forgot to notate it when I got home, so I forgot all about it, that is, until my friend sent me a cell phone pic as he drove by (knowing that I like to shoot hay bales).

So, with my memory now jolted, and my new knee getting better by the day, I made it a point to go out and shoot this picturesque landscape during the golden hour.

By utilizing the in-camera feature "Focus Shift", I was able to have the entire capture in focus. Six, count em', SIX images were focus stacked to produce this sparkling image.

This "Fan" waterfall is seasonal, and it is usually seen in early spring when there is a substantial amount of winter snow to contribute to the spring runoff. However, in this case there is plenty of water to be found in early September due to the copious amount of rain the Hudson Valley in New York has received in recent weeks and months.

Judging by the amount of runoff, debris, crushed grass, etc, this waterfall must have been raging a week ago, but unfortunately, my schedule did not allow me to get here until this particular evening.

I shot this waterfall just two days after Tropical Storm Henri dumped 5+ inches of rain in Pennsylvania.
I zoomed in just a bit, as I could not get any closer to the falls due to the ferocity of the water flow, and not to mention, the footing was extremely slick and uncertain. I didn't need to undo the progress of the rehab of my new knee by slipping and possibly falling on it.

This was first time back there since I last visited back in 2015, and it was more beautiful than I remembered!

I was intrigued by the affect the long exposure had on the American Flag, causing the flag to blur against the backdrop of the 9/11 Memorial. It is a haunting memory, not to be forgotten.
