Sizing Photos

When sizing my photos for pixels is 72 ddi okay or does it need to be larger? How do you change this to a larger size what is the best way to enlarge it if I need too. Also, I do have gimp.

You don't enlarge. And you ignore the dpi. Only the pixels are important. If you enlarge it, it will distort and they won't print it. Whatever your native size is - that is the size.
