Image Thread - Original Art In A Real Space

Post photographs of your original art (***) installed in a real space.

- this thread will close Friday 10th December.

- No simulations.

- One post at the time, please!

- Any member can post unlimited times per day, but only after another member has posted since the last one. If the thread is stuck for more than 6 hours, an exception is accepted.

- It will be nice if you tell us a little about your picture, whether it is the location or about your work.

(CREDIT: rules based on those from the square image thread, thank you Yuri)

UPDATE: I have relaxed the posting rules to get the thread started. Just be sensible, don't bombard the thread and all will be well.

*** FURTHER UPDATE: in this thread, photographs of installed FAA prints do not (by them self) constitute ‘original art’. ***

I'm a photographer and digital artist (mainly Fractals), but in 2021 I discovered Acrylic Pouring. This is one of my creations. I planned to sell the original but I'm not sure about it. It's so cute :-)

Thanks Matthias. I too am reluctant to sell my originals. They form a logical collection (to me) and should be kept together. I refused a purchase before, but offered to make a commission instead. It remains hard to part with even those! I do not describe myself as a 'professional'. But, I am full time at around 50 hours per week. Thanks for joining in. I like your acrylic swirls too.

The image is from of one of the coolest exhibit openings I've ever experienced. After Skyping in for my artist talk, presented on a large monitor in the gallery following the showing of a video I'd created as part of the exhibit, the gallery team then transferred the feed to their laptop and carried me around the gallery. Haven't felt so much love since being cradled waaay back when!

The distance between the gallery and my home is 1,500 miles. After Montreal, the exhibit toured to the Canadian Language Museum located in the Glendon Gallery, York University, Toronto, Canada, January 9-26, 2018.

Portage Artist's Solo Exhibit Opens In Montreal   Written by Portage Online News, August 12, 2017

Last week saw a Portage la Prairie artist's latest body of work open at the Ashukan Cultural Space in Montreal.
Fifteen renderings of Carmen Hathaway's digital creations are displayed there until the end of the month.

It's titled From Smoke To Cyber Signals, and Hathaway says the aim is to explore smoke signals, as portrayed in popular culture.

Original paintings in a cafe in Illinois. This is the only cafe in the chain that has my original acrylic paintings. After the owners of the cafe received the paintings they were delighted and told me they would like me to paint more for the other cafes they were opening... all 125 of them. No way could I paint that many paintings! That is what prompted me to look online for alternatives, and I discovered I could have canvas prints made that nearly matched my acrylic paintings. It was a very successful solution. I'm not sure I ever would have looked into selling my art at PODs, but for this cafe venture.
In the top photo are my three mod pod paintings. The bottom are the tall abstract grid paintings.

The Hampton Inn - Glen Burnie Maryland, purchased one of my images for every hotel room. The image is of row homes on Hanover Street in South Baltimore, MD. I went inside one of the rooms while it was being cleaned and told the cleaning ladies what I was doing. I confirmed with them that the framed photo was in every hotel room (100 rooms total).

Back Story...
An intermediary company in Florida found my image on Flickr, contacted me and took care of the contract transactions. You can imagine my surprise when the actual customer (The Hampton Inn) that purchased the images was only a few miles from my home. I waited until I received a check and could not pass up the opportunity to see my work in the hotel.

Knowing how you can almost always find a hotel room open for cleaning, I figured I'd visit the hotel and just look inside an open door. It happened just as I imagined. I decided to step into the room and take a quick shot with a P&S camera in my pocket. The cleaning lady soon returned to find me there. She did not speak English enough to communicate with me and went to get another lady that could understand English a little better. When the three of us were together, I explained what I was doing. I was allowed to take a picture of my photo on the wall.

At the time it was my biggest art transaction although they said their usual rate was $5 per image. They bought the digital image rights in a contract for a total of 100 and took care of the matting, glass, and framing.

My Work At The Hampton Inn Hotel Rm by Brian Wallace

You can see the reflection of the un-made bed in the flat-screen TV.

The image quality for my P&S camera was quite low. I tried to fix things a bit for this post and made all my price boxes "blank". This is supposed to prevent it from being available for purchase. The only problem with that is the next time I do a "Bulk-Edit" for prices, it will put prices back in the boxes (I'm assuming). I'm probably not going to remember to find this upload at that time to make them all blank again.

Solo exhibit, Sept.7 - Oct. 29, 2011   Portage & District Arts Centre

Self-Similarity -- an exploration of the phenomena of iteration, or repetition, of patterns and form in varying scale. It represents the myriad connections and transitions of our experience -- spiraling ellipses of earthbound structures, and galaxies beyond. Star clusters within star clusters. Branching patterns in the veined networks of leaves, plant stems, and blood vessels.

Crystals within crystals of snowflakes. Crystalline lattice in minerals. Whorls within whorls in bodies of water, fingerprints, and woodgrain. Lightning bolts. Profiles of mountain ranges, coastlines, kaleidoscopic partitioning, music composition, cadence, fractal geometry, and more.

The digital prints on canvas, and acrylic paintings, are interconnected with self-similar components -- the
fused art glass creations based on the artworks, bridge all pieces.

The new media video projected on the south wall, serves as art component and bond, linking the parts of the
whole in a continuum of colour, form and design.

Another video, displayed on a monitor, documents all process in the creation of this exhibition.

From grand scale, to the infinitesimally microscopic -- self-similarity is an endless source of inspiration and innovation.

Thanks to the Manitoba Arts Council for their generous support.

*** FURTHER UPDATE: in this thread, photographs of installed FAA prints do not constitute ‘original art’. ***

Although, printed components can be included in a larger display. I’m looking for that extra real-world dimension and not more images of work that can easily be shared in the other image threads. I’m also not interested in a discussion about what is original art. So, if in doubt please don’t share it here.

Sorry if this wasn’t clear in my original post.

Sorry, I need more clarification I believe. Are you saying only post photographs of our installed "Original Art", or do you mean "Traditional Art", as in paintings, drawings, sculptures?

REVAD CODEDIMAGES

No need to have that discussion here Brian. I think this is simple enough:

“in this thread, photographs of installed FAA prints do not constitute ‘original art’.“

I don’t see how I can be clearer.

Please leave your post. It was made in good faith, when the thread posting rules were less clear cut. Also, a thread for posting photographs of installed FAA produced prints is a good idea. Someone should start one.

Brian Wallace

I won't post anymore now that I know you consider "original art" non-photographic. I happen to consider my photographs original art and what you consider original art is usually referred to as traditional art. Not a discussion... just a clarification.

A variation on the RADICAL SPIRAL STREAM (*), made as a pure Processing sketch. Each spiral is constructed of discreet ellipses drawn in a spiral. Each ellipse is randomly equal in size to the previous ellipse or fractionally larger or smaller. Each spiral is made from a single randomly selected colour. Each spiral is drawn from the same point of origin. This random construction process is continuous making each view a new experience.

A stand-alone kinetic art display installation. Now mounted with a mobile stand. A RPI3B+, Samsung 43 inch HD TV, Processing, powered by two TV USB ports. Auto boots into the sketch. A plug and play mobile exhibition setup. Free standing, only needs a convenient single mains socket. Turn on at opening time. Turn off at closing time. No other intervention required. Seen here in a local exhibition space.

* The RADICAL SPIRAL STREAM is a kinetic sketch, made with the p5js javascript processing library. The stream is installed at: XYZ.REVAD.COM, where you can experience your very own unique random stream of noisy colourful spirals.

Brian, I never said any of that. I do not pick on photography at all. I don’t want to see images of installed prints, whatever the original source might be. Everything on FAA is a print, I just want to see something more / something else in this thread. This rule eliminates the vast majority of my own work too. But, it does not limit the thread to traditional art. As my most recent post proves. So, don’t make this about a battle between traditional and non traditional art. Just accept it is my thread and I can set the rules of engagement.

I wanted to comment on the difficulty of letting go of an original. Oh boy do I remember that clearly! I started selling in 2012 and my gosh, you'd have thought I was selling off one of my children! But the more I did it, the easier it got. It was very helpful when the customers would share photos of "my" painting in their home. That helped more than anything, seeing that the piece was in a "good home" and was being loved. I was able to let go.

Still.... I hung onto a few from those early days in 2012. I shall not sell those for a million dollars! :-)

From a long series of FUSION drawings were I mix drawing with projected light to create and record a transient outcome. The components are dismounted and held in an archive for future installation opportunities. Derived prints have also been made. These can be found in my INSTALLED collection. I am never happier than when i have pen and paper to work with. The projected light acts as a visual glue to bring it all together.

I don't ship my acrylic paintings overseas as a rule, but this fellow was very persistent! After I shipped these two off to him - but before he even received them - he requested two more custom paintings. Which I happily did for him. They have a happy home in Norway now. I was relieved they made it safely there. I did a custom painting for a fellow Texan and shipped it from Dallas to Houston and the box got damaged in transit. Had tire marks on it, so it had been RUN over! So... the paintings made it clear across the sea safely, but could not travel 200 miles safely. Go figure.

Artwork was being installed ready to exhibit. But, in order to continue, the event was rapidly moved online. This advertising flier/booklet was made to show my intended installed outcomes. Late '90s. On seeing a studio setup for working with stained glass, I enrolled in a 6-week introductory course in stained glass basics -- the impetus for a 20+ year journey.

By 1999, I'm sharing my passion teaching this endlessly fascinating process at my studio.

In July, 1999, I completed a stained glass commission for the new Aspen Worship Centre at the Manitoba Developmental Centre in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada.

There are 4, 32” x 40” panels in the east and south windows,10” x 60” sidelights in the main entrance, and a set of 3, 24” discs suspended in the skylight in the tower.

During evening services the windows are bathed in the soft glow of the exterior halogen lights.

The center/right side image is of me satisfied with my creation of the first of the 4 largest panels.

The last image is an especially fond memory — it is one of the layouts I was drafting for the first pair of panels, using traditional methods: T-square, flexible curve, graphite pencils on graph paper.

And, the most essential: cat.

This is my most accomplished photo so far with numerous international awards. It has also been published in the Greek magazine "Photographos" meaning "photographer" in English which is the most known magazine in Greece related to photography. It is the bridge of Paleokaria with the waterfall behind it in a black and white rendition. The bridge has become famous in Greece and has been photographed by so many people in the past years. My first captures of the Paleokaria bridge, among them this black and white image date back to 2014.

Here it is behind Dasha Eremeeva, a photographer herself, at gallery Artel in Minsk - Belarus. It was a part of photos that had won some recognition in the MIFA Awards 2017 (Moscow's International Photo Awards). In that competition, my photo got second place in the general category of Architecture photography for non-professional photographers and a gold medal in the “Architecture: Bridges” category and exhibited in Moscow from 22 July 2017 until the 30th of July and then extended to the 6th of August 2017. And as I have also mentioned it was also presented in Minsk, gallery Artel, from 14th September until 23rd September 2017.

This poster shows the outcomes I installed and recorded for this year’s festival. These included my contributions to two international projects: Covimetry and Wings For Freedom. The virtual components can be found at http://revad.xyz . The Covimetry prints were exhibited in Poland alongside a large projected animation.
