Description
Several white-tailed jackrabbits live in my area. They come close to the house, and often don't bolt away just because I'm outside. I take pictures of them so I can identify and know how many I have. I also have cottontail rabbits bouncing around.
I liked the evening light on this creature.
Jackrabbits are technically hares, not rabbits, though both look similar and belong to the same family, Leporidae. Montana has three hares: white-tailed jackrabbit, black-tailed jackrabbit, and snowshoe hare. According to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, "White-tailed jackrabbits are one of the world’s largest hares, second only to the Alaskan hare. They are 2 feet long from their nose to their 3- to 4-inch-long stubby tail, and weigh 6 to 10 pounds.
Because of the animals’ large ears, early settlers called them 'jackass rabbits,' later shortened to jackrabbit...."

Thanks for the comment, Nisah. This one has a couple of notches on its ear, but it's not Notch.
