Friend From Above
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
I had the idea for this painting for quite awhile. A friend I met on Facebook named Bert Crowfoot, who happens to be a professional photographer, posted this picture and it immediately inspired me. Although the inspiration was there to paint the image I had a hard time deciding what else to put in the painting. I have used eagles in past paintings and at first I wanted to use another animal, however, each time I began designing I kept getting the image of a colorful eagle so I went with it.
I never know how my ideas will turn out when I first think of them but I am slowly learning to trust myself when I am creating. In the original photograph the boys powwow regalia is predominantly blue and white. I wanted to use green in this painting because I feel like its a color that I often ignore. Green can be a difficult color to use (at least it is for me) especially if its used in abundance and is surrounded by contrasting colors. I feel like I used it in a good way.
