Hill Country Abstract, No. 2" is an original watercolor, 11" X 14" on 140-pound cold-press Kilimanjaro paper using American Journey and Davinci paints. The painting is one of a series which explores abstraction as a means to help express the beauty of the Texas Hill Country where I live, and to encourage viewers to interact with the painting using their own experience and perceptions. While subject matter may still be recognizable, abstraction frees the imagination, while challenges creativity.

Virgil Carter, BWS, PWS, PWCS, TWS, is a watercolor painter, teacher, demonstrator, workshop leader, author and Internet commentator. He paints primarily in watercolor, both en plein aire and from his studio in Boerne, TX. Primarily a representational painter, Virgil paints a variety of subjects, but enjoys most painting landscapes and town/urban subjects. He is concerned with telling stories in paint which share a personal idea, emotion or feeling about each subject. Color and light figure strongly in all of his work.
