Description
Captain Cook's voyages. 18th-century sections (gores) of a globe showing Africa, and depicting the routes of Captain James Cook's three voyages: 1768-1771 (red line), 1772-1775 (orange line) and 1776-1780 (green line). Months and years are labelled in Italian. Cook and his ships and crews travelled thousands of kilometres, exploring and charting new lands. Cook himself died on the third voyage. This sheet is one of a series of four created by the Italian cartographer Giovanni Maria Cassini, in 1790. Together, they cover the entire globe. For all four sheets, see images C007/4552, C026/8953, C026/8954, and C026/8955.
