Description
The Red Crossbill lives throughout the coniferous forests of Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, and Idaho. Their crossed beak helps them to remove seeds from pinecones. This female crossbill was hanging upside down from a Douglas Fir cone and would attack the cone periodically in search of seeds.
I photographed this bird in the Shoshone National Forest just outside the east gate of Yellowstone National Park.
