Many babies' name are inspired by places. My parents named me after an African city.

I was born in the U.S.A. and Kinshasa is my name. Kinshasa is also the name of the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, located in Central Africa. Once this town, Kinshasa, was formerly named Leopoldville, which was the capital of the Belgian colony of Congo. After Congo achieved its independence from Belgium, on June 30, 1960, Leopoldville was renamed, Kinshasa, in 1966.

My parents choose to call me Kinshasa because my great-grandparents had lived in Kinshasa in the 1960's for over sixteen years.

My name could be gender neutral; it could be a name for a girl or a boy.

I found my name very original and unique. I judge my name full of African values and culture; therefore, I consider my name an important African birthright.
