Description
Nafplio is a city on the Argolic Gulf in the northeastern portion of the Peloponnese in Greece. It is on a peninsula that juts out into the gulf and is surrounded by beautiful blue water. Acronauplia (or Acronafplia) is the old part of town that is mainly on the peninsula. There are very old fortifications out on Acronafplia.
The Palamidi Fortress overlooks the town of Nafplio. You can see the stairs leading up to the fortress from the town. The people of Nafplio say there are 999 stairs to the top of the fortress. We took a cab to the top and lost count on the way down around 300.
