Description
Little Samphire Lighthouse is a harbour light to guide vessels into Tralee Bay. The name Samphire comes from a little plant called "Herb San Pierre" or "St Peter's Herb" which is found on the island. Building of the lighthouse started in 1849 and the first light was established in 1854. A single dwelling housed the principal keeper, and his wife acted as assistant keeper. The Slieve Mish Mountains on the Dingle Peninsula are visible across Tralee Bay.
