Anode patterns. Various designs for anodes shaped to produce patterns by electrolytic deposition of metals. These patterns are usually referred to as Nobili rings, after the Italian physicist Leopoldo Nobili who discovered this phenomenon in 1826. Artwork from the seventh volume (first period of 1891) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'.
